Ry is a Massachusetts licensed forester and serves private landowners and municipalities throughout the Connecticut River Valley and western hilltowns. He joined Bay State Forestry Service in 2021. He is originally from Kansas, where he completed a bachelor’s degree in ecology and evolution from the University of Kansas. After graduating, he moved to western Massachusetts in 2015 and has been involved in conservation and forestry work in the state ever since. He eventually returned to school to earn a master of science degree from SUNY-ESF, where he studied the forest carbon dynamics and silviculture of Adirondack forests. His professional interests include silviculture, community forest management, climate change adaptation, and regional agroforestry development. Ry lives with his family in Plainfield, MA where he enjoys tending his woodlot, cultivating mushrooms, and playing music in community bands.
